‘Get Moving’ was the theme for St Michael’s annual ‘a-thon’ event held on Tuesday September 4 2018. This year we focussed on the healthy benefits of ‘getting moving’ and its influence on the learning and development of children.
Our school was registered for National Health & Physical Education Day which was on September 5.
Health & Physical Education (HPE) Day is a nationwide initiative that highlights the importance of HPE in the Australian Curriculum, and its influence on the learning and development of children.
Most children’s waking hours are spent sitting at school and at home, so it’s important to get them to be more active as part of everyday life.
The rain held off (nobody would have complained about rain!) and all planned grade activities were able to take place. The school was filled with the sounds of fun and frivolity as students and teachers engaged in energetic games. Everyone got moving!
Thank you to our families for your generous support of our ‘Move-a-thon’ day. A total of $15,948.95 has been raised so far to go towards the literacy and technology resources for teaching and learning.

Wacky outfits, wonderful progress! 🤪📚 Year 1 embraced Wacky Wednesday with some wonderfully wacky outfits, and we have something else to celebrate… 99% of students with results from both assessments improved in at least one area of our nonsense-word reading check! 🌟👏 Nonsense words are made-up words that help us see how children use their letter–sound knowledge to sound out and blend unfamiliar words, rather than relying on words they already recognise. These skills help our students tackle new words as they read! 🔤📖 We’re so proud of their hard work and the progress they’re making. DOUBLE FIRST PLACE! A huge congratulations to our two St Michael’s Dance Troupes, who competed at the Hawkesbury Eisteddfod last week and were both awarded first place in their sections. Our girls faced some very tough competition, but they rose to the occasion and performed at their absolute best. Their hard work, dedication and commitment certainly shone on stage, and these fantastic results were well deserved. We are incredibly proud of you all!
